Within my research, I choose to look at an few newspaper website as within our task we have to create two hyperlinks web pages for our new local newspaper. I have decided to look at three different local newspaper website-

The News Guardian - Whitley Bay local newspaper

News Post Leader - Blyth local newspaper

Evening chronicle- Local newspaper for the North Tyneside

All the websites above are local newspaper for North Tyneside. The News Guardian and the News Post Leader are both free local newspaper, one for Whitley Bay and the another one for Blyth, whilst the Evening Chronicle is based on Newcastle and Sunderland and cost.


The websites also include many adverts for local business within the same area as the newspaper itself. the adverts that are on the website are also included within the newspaper as well. Most of the money for the News Guardian come from the advertising, which allowed it to become an free newspaper. Even though it is an free newspaper, it is still able to be brought if you are not able to get it delivered free.


Within all three of the websites above their layout are similar to each other, as they all included 6 columns and by looking at other newspaper websites, it seems that many of the newspaper websites included 6 columns.


The colour schemes on the websites are similar to the mast heading on the newspaper itself. The website include more colour then the black and white printed newspaper itself. The website carry out the same colour scheme throughout the site, and keep an similar style on all pages. The News Guardian and the News Post Leader both have the same colour scheme and style as they are joined companies.


From looking at the websites above and another websites, i started to get an basic understanding of what an newspaper such look like. I have decided that within my website pages i will have an fix colour scheme that will link to my newspaper itself but also included only 6 columns, to try to keep it as similar as an real newspaper website.

Research- Newspaper





The News Guardians and the News Post Leader work together to get across local news within Tyneside but each newspaper forces on an fix sectioned area that it looks at mainly. The News guardians is an local newspaper that include news about Whitley Bay and the coast, whereas the News Post Leader includes news about Blyth.

Researching two similar newspaper, has giving me an basic understanding on the layout of the front cover and what type of stories newspaper include. Most newspaper use 4 - 5 columns to layout the main story and then try to have the other columns fitting with the columns for the main story. We also need to remember to include advisement's for local business with the area. Many newspaper use an same front throughout the paper and keep the same colour scheme running through the paper also. Newspaper company tend to keep to two colours + black through the paper, where as the News Guardians and the News Post Leader both have the same colour scheme which include blue, red and black throughout. 

Research- Poster

When researching newspaper poster, i realised that their was few posters for local newspapers, the only one i found were for the local newspaper for London. while I was research I come across an few posters for just general newspapers, which was able to give me an basic understand of the style in which newspaper company advertise their stories. With this style of poster, it mostly advertise the main story within the newspaper, which catches the reader eye to the advertisement and the newspaper.

Throughout our research we come across an different type of poster that advise an newspaper and real life stories in an different way. Within this poster I like the way in which they don't just forces on today news, but they also link it to how things has changed throughout the years and how everything is not the way they seem, such as in one of the poster is say 'some tools aren't an luxury' which can come across in many ways, depending on the reader, some of the meaning could be that not all country are lucky enough to have the things other countries could have such as army and police tools or something much different like freedom. With these poster they have an really meaning behind that all readers can understand but at the same time have smaller meaning behind it that can be different to all readers.

After research and understand the meanings behind these poster and how they work to advise things. we decide to create an poster like the second type of posters that we researched. We have decide this as we like the way in which they get across an powerful but truthful meaning behind what has happened throughout real life issues and how things how changed and still will change throughout the coming years. The poster also catch the readers eye by the use of images and the few words with on it.

Choosing A Brief

We had to decide between an list of briefs and pick 3 of then out of the 5, which were

1. A promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, which need to include a website homepage for the film and a poster for the film.

Initial idea- The initial idea for this brief was to do an teaser trailer of an drama, that will catch the audiences attention but to keep them waiting for the film itself. The trailer will based around suiting all audience type within the age range of teens and adults.

2. An extract from a new documentary TV programme, lasting approximately five minutes, which need to include a double-page spread from a listing magazine focused on the documentary and an newspaper advertisement for the documentary.

Initial idea- The initial idea for this brief was to do the documentary based on animals and their lifestyle, such as sea life.

3. The first two pages of a new local newspaper, which need to include a poster for the newspaper and two hyperlinked pages from the paper's website.

Initial idea- The initial idea is to come up with an local newspaper round our own area (North tyne side), that will include true life story, local news and current event within the area.

Out of the three brief that we have picked, we decided on doing number 3 which is the local newspaper, as last year we worked within the print media, in which we both enjoined and we would like to improve our skills within the print media.
